The ending of Hamlet is very famous for it’s quantity of bloodshed. In all of this mess, is justice served?

Mr. Sullivan, my 12th grade English teacher, made us dress up in Burger King crowns and sword fight with paper towel tubes to make sense of Shakespeare's Hamlet. Here at the American School in Guadalajara we are going to use the internet instead. In the posts below, follow us as we seek to understand why this really is the greatest play in the English language.

ReplyDeleteThe ending of Hamlet is full of bloodshed but is also full of justice for all characters. For example Hamlet killing the uncle for the death of his father and Hamlets mother. Hamlets mother was justified because she was guilty of being naive and not paying attention to the important things such like Hamlet and her country. Al thought I dont agree on doing Justice by your own hand I think it still was an ending full of justice.

ReplyDeleteBloodshed or justice? I say both because Hamlet killed the uncle, but he lost the mother he loved and he lost his own life. Laertes thought he would get justice by killing Hamlet, but after knowing he was only being played like a puppet by the king he only regreted each and every second. The king thought his plan was going to work, but instead he failed in one thing, his wife wanting a drink. If only he brought a spare incase someone wanted to join in. So what I am saying is that many characters received bloodshed, justice, or even both.

ReplyDeleteI think that justice was serves with the ones who were planning revenge like the king, Laertes, and Hamlet. They all got what they deserved because of the plans they were making to kill one another. But some other cases like Ophelias and Gertrudes was bloodshed. Ophelia was only obedient and ended up mad and after drowned. Gertrude´s death was also bloodshed, she never knew what was going on, it wasnt her fault that she was so ignorant; but at least she got to know the real king and her big mistake before she died.

ReplyDeleteI consider it fare for every character that got killed because one way or another they were all evolved in either trying to kill Hamlet, like the facebook friends, or were just meant to die because it made the plot much more interesting, like Hamlet's mom. I'm glad that Horatio was not killed because he was a great and loyal friend. Besides someone had to be kept alive to tell the story to the others.
i loved the movie of Hamlet!

ReplyDeleteFor some guys yes like Claudius, because he was the beginning of the revenge and he planned on killing Hamlet later too. Horatio, he helped Hamlet and did not betray him and at the end he did not die. For Gertrude.. maybe.. because for me she was just silly that did not really know what was going on.. but also she was being toooo ignorant, not paying attention to her son at all. Justice is not served for Hamlet because he loses his love, his family and also his life, when Claudius should be the only one dead. Same for Laertes. He is like the second Hamlet of the play.
I think that every character that died deserved to. Either because they wanted to kill Hamlet or because they made a mistake through out the play. As well, this made the play more interesting and this way when it ended you felt relief it was really over.

ReplyDeleteIn a strange way all of the bloodshed that took place throughout the play did end up having a certain amount of justice. All of the characters involved did something unjust in one way or another. Even Hamlets mother, Gertrud who was one of the most naive of them all ended up dying because when it all came down to it she did not dodge the hand of justice.
